Islamabad Bar Council
Press Release
An emergent session of the Islamabad Bar Council was convened. Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Abbasi, Vice Chairman, Syed Qamar Hussain Shah Sabzwari, Raja M. Aleem Khan Abbasi, Mr. Adil Aziz Qazi (Worthy Chairman Executive Committee), Members, Islamabad Bar Council attended the meeting convened by the Worthy Vice Chairman.
The Islamabad Bar Council discussed the unilateral holding of a function by the Cabinet of the Islamabad Bar Association, with regard to the so called construction of Islamabad Lawyers’ Complex.
The Islamabad Bar Council pointed out that the function organised by the Cabinet of the Islamabad Bar Association is to gain political mileage on the ruse of the construction of Lawyers’ Chambers and the Islamabad Bar Council being the Apex Representative Organisation of the Respected Lawyers Community of the Islamabad cannot be a part of any such ploy to hoodwink the Respected Lawyers Community of the Islamabad and disassociates itself from the aforesaid deceptive stunt. The said activity is impermissible, particularly in view of the fact that no such proposal for holding of such a function was ever discussed in the general house of the Islamabad Bar Association.
It is added that as per the briefing given to the Islamabad Bar Council by the Capital Development Authority, till to date there is no provision of Lawyers’ Chambers in the Lawyers/Litigation Facilitation Centre sought to be constructed by the Government.
The holding of function by the outgoing Cabinet of the Islamabad Bar Association at the verge of expiry of their tenure, that too in the name of construction of the Lawyers’ Chambers is an attempt to create false hope amongst the Respected Lawyers Community of the Islamabad, which is not allowed. The order dated 30/12/2021, passed by the Honourable Islamabad High Court, Islamabad in Writ Petition No. 1884 of 2019 is quite clear with regard to the current scenario.
It is added that the almost superannuated cabinet of the Islamabad Bar Association claims that the Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan will attend the function being organised by the Islamabad Bar Association. This will amount to rubbing salt into the wounds of the lawyers affected by the demolition of the Chambers, particularly in view of the fact that the Order, which finally resulted in the demolition of more than 600 Chambers of the lawyers was passed by the Bench headed by the Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan in CP No. 627 of 2021. Islamabad Bar Council is not and cannot be a part of it.
Moreover, the almost superannuated cabinet of the Islamabad Bar Association is forbidden from utilising any funds pertaining to the exchequer of the Islamabad Bar Association for hosting any lunch with regard to the above referred function.
